What are these bolts
What are these bolts on the transom of this old Donzi?
2 of them are to a ski eyelet, but the other 5 are basically just “carriage” bolts? any ideas? https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...a3813c356.jpeg |
Maybe so ski eyelet can be moved an inch or so either way?? Just a guess..
|
I was wondering if there might be a piece of steel embedded in the transom for strength or something and these are bolted through that?
just to clarify zz - the outer bolts are the same! So 5 of the 7 that you see are these weird bolts with the other two being to the eyelet. im stumped….. |
possibly a platform on the back at some point and when it was removed they just put carriage bolts in to fill the holes?
|
Just looking at the 5 bolts in the center, numbering them 1 thru 5 from left to right, assuming current ski eyelet installed using holes 2 and 4. Looks like you could remove all 5 and re-installed ski eyelet in holes 1 and 3 or 3 and 5. The left-over carriage bolts would go into the unused holes.
No idea on the 2 outboard bolts. Kinda looks like there's an outline left from something that got removed. A backing plate maybe?? An old swim platform being removed also makes sense. |
I agree. Something was there once before, and it was removed. You can see the imprint of the old backing plates.

Swim
Depending on what model donzi it is it may have had one of those big molded swim platforms on it at one time? Like the crossbows and other I believe had?
|
On the outer area where the shadows are left, did the boat have a swim step on both sides (pic I saw had one on port)? That’s probably what those are leftover from.
I haven’t seen a full platform in any of the pictures that I tried looking at. Probably not much to be stumped about really - looks like some so-so work to me. Pull all the bolts and feel around to make sure the wood is good, then plug/epoxy what you don’t need. Going to be one cool boat when done! |
Yes, there is other FG work that will need to be done so in the end they will just get filled. Just very strange.
this model had the two small platforms on either side of the drive - te old wooden ones with the drop down ladder. There was only one left when I got the boat. oh well…… |
