Any idea what this is?
Hi guys,
got a question, looked at a boat yesterday and the below pic is got me wondering what it might be. the engine is a 454 mag efi with what the guy says got water in the oil. he says he shut it off and hasn’t done anything with it. this “material” or “stain” is between the head and the block on both sides middle cylinders both sides. https://i.postimg.cc/9fY777tW/IMG-9673.jpg any ideas what this might be? thanks. |
Looks like block was froze and then JB welded
|
So cracked block?
|
If your hot for the boat Price it as it needs a motor and present one not rebuildable.

water in oil dont spill out the block like that for sure! |
Sure looks like JB weld to me with water staining underneath. So yes, definitely cracked block, and being that your getting water in the oil, I would presume that engine is worth no more than scrap metal.

Being it is the same on both sides you still think cracked block?
what are the odds of that? i (just my thinking) was even thinking that the heads were lifted because it’s both sides and 2 center cylinders each side. if consensus is cracked block then I imagine you guys are most likely correct |
My guess, improper winterize at some point froze and busted
