500 efi starter motor replacement part number
I’m replacing both starter motors since motors are out for rebuilds.
50-8m8021116 is the part number for the 500efis that number is coming up as NLA. And listing 50-863007A 1 as an alternative does anyone no if there is as any difference between the two or are they in fact the same. Thanks |
I don't know anything about the 500 efi starters, but when I have a starter go bad and I can't find a replacement, I have a local shop rebuild them for me.
|
Give BAM a call and ask them...they show it as active on their site: https://mercruiserparts.com/8m8021116-starter-assy
Not in stock but the number is not listed as NLA... |
You can find marine starters as good or better then Merc for 1/3 the price......dont buy an auto starter
|
Why are you replacing starters? If it’s not broken don’t fix it…just my opinion.
|
I do change parts before they break...
peace of mind...!!! |

starters are 20 years old and if one goes you are pulling the motors to change them. The old ones work perfectly fine…..until they don’t |

to each there own…but the 20 year old qoute can be applied to the whole engine. Injectors, sensors, ecm module, coupler, fuel pumps, etc. are you replacing everything…if so it might be better to buy new engines?

I hear of people pro actively replacing there starters quite often while the engine is out, simply because it is so much easier to replace the starter with the engine out, then in.
Thanks. Brad. |

just never heard someone rebuilding an engine and putting new starters on? injectors sensors oil lines Rods Pistons Cool fuel was replaced two years ago couplers new two years ago I’m even going to pony up for new spark plugs. And I won’t be remotely close to the cost of new engines |
ARCO Marine Parts | Quality is our legacy.
Search for your number with this place. I think they have a cross reference. Or call them. |

I'd go with the newer style permanent magnet motor starter myself,.... 1/2 the weight, 'n twice the power,..... DB Electric has good starters are great prices,.... |
I often proactively replace the starter, alternator, circulation pump, etc on boats. Then you have a good used spare to take with you on trips too.
|
true story, last summer we took the engine out of my buddy,s 26 foot boat to remove the transom assembly,he had a new starter in a box that had been sitting for about 10 years, when we put everything back togeather guess what, the starter just clicked ,would not crank over.i was able to remove the starter and put his old one in without lifting the engine but it was a ***** of a job.the lesson learned is,always bench test any starter prior to installing it.

Starter
Starters are cheaper than the cost of pulling motor
