502 Cam Issue.

What does this cam tell you. Once the engine was rebuilt, it ingests a small amount of water and we cannot seem to figure the issue out. It has captains call and Flappers on the tips. Possibly looking into the cam being an issue.

When we pull the exhaust off there is water around the valves, and when we pull the intake there’s water in the valley.

Here’s what we have checked.
Block
Heads
Oil Cooler
Intake
Exhaust

Any help is appreciated! Thank you.

can you take a pic of your engine in the boat w/ the exhaust.are you sure you don't have a small exhaust leak,,that will suck back water.

Engines were originally going for top ends just as a refresher. The owner decided a full rebuild was a better option so there was “no issues” in the future.

are they original cams before rebuilds ? this happening on one or both engines, who rebuilt them

This is happening on both engines. The work order from the builder said he replaced with “good used cams”

it’s a gentleman out of Lebanon Mo.

need to know the specs on the cam,if he put hp500 efi cams in,,that cast iron exhaust is a problem.also, look round the exhaust ports for signs of leaking exhaust gas.that will cause reversion.

Water is pretty clear. Split the filter and it’s very Milky.

Did it have captains call before or just through hull? Was the old exhaust dry to the tips?

It has always had captains call.

1622 is the last four digits of the stock GM cam??? 454/502 Mag Camshaft GM # 12551622 - Offshoreonly.com

I'd pull one of the cams and have the specs checked to verify. Stock exhaust with diverters can't handle any more than stock cams.
Hard to tell from the pics, but those corsa diverters don't look to have much downward angle.
Are they doing it when ran with the boat in the water?? or on a hose on the trailer??
And are the engines getting to full operating temp @160*+?? Stock oil coolers??
Post pics of the spark plugs, heads, and pistons.

That sounds like two completely separate problems ? Is there actually "water" in the valley or is it milky oil ?

Did you ever figure this out?
