Building High Performance Catamarans – Q and A
Hey everyone,
We are Hellkats Powerboats, a custom catamaran builder based in Miami. We design and build high performance go-fast pleasure boats from the ground up, including our 32 and 30 cats, and a 40 center console built for everything from Poker Runs to fishing. This thread is a Q and A. Whether you are an experienced boater, thinking of building your first performance cat, or just interested in the engineering side of the process, ask us anything. Here are a few topics we are happy to talk about: - Performance catamaran hull design - Outboard vs inboard setups - Carbon fiber vs fiberglass - Balancing speed, safety, and comfort - Behind the scenes of custom boat building - Lessons we have learned from building and running Hellkats boats - We will reply to every question. No sales pitch. Just sharing knowledge and experience. Post your questions below! |
Heavy inboard cat... spin in or out ?

the answer to "in or out" is yes. when I was building race boats I rerigged both "the spirit of puerto rico" and "reliefband", both were '40 Skaters with setback fuel tanks and were built two hulls apart from each other. both boats were twin to each other with the same super cat Mercury power and 6's. same balance, engine location etc. Spirit ran the best turning out at 2.5" above the bottom and was terrible turning in. Reliefband ran the best turning in at 3.25" above the bottom and ran ok turning out but handled better and accelerated better turning in. again these two boats were as identical as you could get in a Super Cat but reacted very different with drive height and rotation so the answer is the boat wants what the boat wants and any one who tells you that you must do this or that with out having tried it on your particular boat is full of you know what. the only way you will know it to test it every possible way and see what it likes.

i have found turning in makes them roll to the outside in corners turning out keep them flatter in the corners these new tator chip long, low profile, light outboard cats i have no idea if its the same

Myrick agrees with Bob on turning IN to eliminate hop but most turn out hence my interest.
https://teaguecustommarine.com/teagu...-mPRbDLFR0QT1A I suppose with the new power I SHOULD leave it turned OUT as is and try IN at a later date but Myrick recommends I switch them now. That guy knows his stuff and since I`m twidling my thumbs waiting on engines I think I`ll just turn them IN now. |

Quite the ingaging discussion with Hellcat Powerboats
|
Could be they are waiting for an actual question. Even I know you need more info than the couple of "grunts" you offered. Quite frankly, I'm surprised you didn't go on and on about all the things you are adding, changing and spending on your boat? Most of us would have IF we really wanted this companies help or opinion but it feels like you are looking for something else. I took a quick look at their site and it looks like they only work with outboards and I assume that they ride and handle differently than a "heavy inboard cat" so this whole interaction is probably moot.

Sounds like it's more of a self promotion post than anything substantial

You antagonization isn`t going to work PQ idiot.
I feel bad for Special needs adults. |
My goal was never to antagonize you. My goal was once again to point out that you are an insecure little p###k who thinks he's alpha but always coming up beta. I can't believe you wouldn't laugh off the fact that I called you out on your non question and just rephrase it as an actual question! F'n simple. Mature, adult like. I would also argue that anyone who puts as much money into a boat as members of this site have, all have "Special Needs". It's what sets us apart.

The guy that asks the DUMBEST fuc king question on this site thinks he`s going to tell me how to ask a question properly.. LMAO Good one.

On a different topic, I own a black truck, how many miles should I have on it? FYI, I shared this particular interaction with my brother and he laughed too. He also wondered based on your screen name if you are a mortician? I said probably not because that would be very clever and you are not clever.....at all. Btw, blocking me is pretty easy but I wish you wouldn't. What if my engines blow this year? Think of how good you would feel if that happened. I would hate for you to miss out on what you perceive as "joy". Think about it. Your friend, PQ (idiot) |
Either you`re Austistic or have some kind of neurological deficiency.
Have yet to figure out how to block you. |

Hey Danny, Lots of metaphors and plain old American sayings coming up. Let me know if you don't recognize them and I will try to walk you through them.
So you finally get to "Tap Out" and true to form you get to blame someone else for your failure. (Sorry Sutphen 30 but you're his "scape goat" this time) I am actually relieved. I started to feel like I was beating a puppy. Your responses kept getting more pathetic but you just kept coming. I'm the most "meat and potato's" guy you will (n)ever meet. High school diploma, served my country for 4 years in the Marine Corps, and now have been in construction for over 35 years. My point being that you couldn't match wits with me and as you know, I'm not the "sharpest knife in the drawer". You may have to re-evaluate. Anyway, I came to this site for help and talk about boats. You apparently came to give grief and be an internet a$$hole. Danny, you took an indefensible position for absolutely no "logical" reason. All I did was point it out. Instead of "manning up" and correcting your mistake, you doubled down as I knew you would. You are a very emotional character and provoking you to maintain this stupid position was easy. Probably mean, but easy non the less. This is of course just a personal observation that I'm sure is not shared by anyone else but your on-line persona lacks even a spec of humility. You do unfortunately possess some of the worst qualities to combine. Arrogance. Ignorance and you're Stubborn to a fault. I'm sure you smelled "blood in the water" with every one of your posts hoping someone, anyone would chime in and help you get the "dog pile" going against me but who in their right mind would defend you on this particular thread? Even when I am the focus of your anger. Still... no one? It appears obvious to me that your dislike for me or maybe it's blind rage, regardless it kept you from noticing that the "blood in the water" was your own. At the very least you have learned (if possible) that the members on this site aren't willing to follow you when you are sooooo obviously wrong. Can you even imagine if our positions were reversed for this thread? I would have been torn apart. You would have shown this across the internet. Even people without boats would have joined this site just to point out how stupid I was. :D I guess you can take some solace in the fact that no one joined me (at least publicly) in trying to point out that your position is indefensible and maybe you should just walk away. With that in mind, did any of your internet friends contact you privately about this? Because make no mistake....you really "screwed the pooch" on this one. I'm sure none of them got a chuckle or enjoyed watching this unfold. :evilb: If you were still unable to block me even after receiving the very detailed instructions and you read this post, I am willing to call your last post a "Swing and a miss". A "mulligan" if you will and give you another chance for something witty. You can do it. Have faith. Your Friend, PQ (idiot) Almost forgot, From possibly the most hated person by Danny on this site to one of our newest members, "Hellkat Powerboats," I want to extend a warm welcome to OSO. Hopefully you will be an active member. Sorry for messing up your first post. I promise you there are some great people here and those with Catamarans would probably like to ask you some actual questions. |
Geez, can't we all just get along?
|
No more of this idiots word vomit.

I was going to switch em either way..
I`ll find out myself if that`s the way to go or not. 6`s sure are easier to swap then 4`s and 5`s .. no hydraulics. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.off...b9472bc225.jpg |
