Will this work?

Ok so my 1995 454 efi engine has a cracked block.
I bought a used gen v block to swap everything over with to use and being that the new block is .30 over (fresh from machine shop) I have to use new pistons.
the pistons that I can get pretty handily are the

Sealed Power Hypereutectic Pistons Big Block Chevy 454 [4.280 in. Bore (+.030)]

I actually physically have them.
is there going to be any issues using my factory cam and heads with these pistons?
clearance issues?
I know I have to check but didn’t know if someone knew offhand.
thanks guys.

No one can determine if these would be gtg without a part # or more details. Are they domed? Dished? What is the compression height?

When did you get these Sealed Power pistons? Are the new 'old stock'?

The quality of these are not what they used to be. A reaonable hyperuetectic piston from a good company is pretty cheap insurance.

I have the 088 heads I believe.

the pistons are new old stock.

Tom272Baja 07-27-2025 05:02 PM

Yes sir stock cam.

30 cc dome is that like the stock piston ? thats a big bump

Tom272Baja 07-27-2025 05:27 PM

I’m not sure what the factory piston is, I doubt it is 30cc that’s why I am asking.
I haven’t opened my engine up yet just got it pulled and on a stand in my barn for now.
That would bring up another question.
I wonder how much it would change the compression ratio and how it would affect the current tune.

Tartilla 07-27-2025 10:13 PM

With 088 heads and the 365Mag forged pistons @ 13.8cc dome, you get an 8.63:1 compression.

0.030" over and 30cc dome is going to put you in a rough place at almost 10:1 CR.

How bad is the bore from the donor block? A hone cleanup for a set of forged pistons to 0.0055" clearance may clean up well enough. Gen V and VI bores 4.250" can be really good if they aren't destroyed from rust etc.

You could swap over the old pistons...get some good rings and a hone on the block.

The bores on the donor block are perfect.

Lots of new info on bore prep over the past 10 years. Check out Lake Speed Jr on YT Total Seal channel to get up to speed.

Get a good quality ball hone with a fine grit. Get some new rings and run your pistons.

Nothing wrong with a ball hone if used within the boundaries of intent. Like any tool.

Just to deglaze the surface a small amount.
