summit 8802 or LT1 hot cam
 

Any you guys have any experience with a Summit 8802 cam in a marine application? The 8802 is pretty close to LT1 factory hot cam....It's about the same numbers as a Comp 270 marine cam, but 200 bucks cheaper...A little more lift than the Comp cam 270, but still a 112 LCA.....Thank you..

Obviosly the cams are very similar in the specs. The differences will be in the lobe design amd quality of the cam core.

What cam core is a billet style vs cast? What spring rates are you running?

Lobe design is a big deal, but the real question, will the Summit cam last in a marine application?

Can you locate a used LT1 hot cam? Even find photos of used hot cams to see how they wear?

For $550 is the price for a quality custom cam from many of the good sources. Bullit, Jones Cams etc. Then you get the benfit of tailored lobe designs.

The cam core is billet..They have excellent reviews ..My springs can handle the cam no problem...I don't see why a Summit cam wouldn't last in a marine application? You just need to worry about reversion, but these cams are very similar in specs...You have to admit these marine camshafts are overpriced...500 bucks for a roller camshaft

The Summit cam quality has zero factor with the specs on your reversion. Neither does the 112° LSA. It's all about the total overlap for the application and heads used etc., that applies to your exhaust setup.

Haven't seen anything about your build or setup.

Your query was essentially about if you should go with a far cheaper Summit cam. Not sure what you expect for $500 ish dollars these days with a quality roller cam.

That's something you'll have to decide. Reviews are likely meaningless for your marine application, unless they're running circle track continuous high rpm racing.

Sir, you haven't been helpful in the least...It looks like you want to debate everything here...You asked about cam quality and I gave you an answer..You can figure the overlap based on the LCA and the duration..They are very similar...For the record it's a 383 with aluminum heads 2.02/1.6 valves and a stock Mercruiser exhaust...You apparently don't know the camshaft so quit trying to break my balls please..

I have not used Summit’s Pro camshafts. Therefore, no experience with’m. Just a statement to answer op’s question.

Lift seems closer to the Comp extreme efi cams. I have experience with the extreme 268efi. Lots of boating hrs in fact. 268xfi hydroller 218/224 at .050 113lsa .570/.565 lift with 1.6 ratio rockers

But….it’s not the same cam is the summit one in question, so….i have nothing , really, for you.

Also, with stock exhaust ? Nope.
Not many (i really don’t remember any) have run any performance cam (218 at .050” or higher) , so you’ll have to do a real search to find some. I do remember a few using 212 at .050” comp cam marine extreme cams.

If one vs. the other is better suited, I wouldn’t let $200 stop me from buying such an important part.
