Looking for someone to Dyno my build
Trying to find someone good to dyno my 454 build. See promaxx head thread. After summer started I didn’t make any progress on the project and given the time of year it makes sense to dyno and tune the engine. I started on a stand already.
I am near Nashville and would like to not have to drive a crazy distance. I talked to Eddie Young who built some 1100hp quadrotors for me years ago and he wasn’t up for it as he was busy with his stuff. Thanks |

Thanks,
Called them and they are going to dyno next Friday. I’ll let everyone know if I’m going to quit Dentistry and become a big time engine builder! |

Guys,
No to derail, but... Anybody know of any outdrive dynos out there? Thanks. Brad. |
Prop shaft dyno K&O model 4000 - Offshoreonly.com
I tried to buy one a few years ago, but it didn't seem like anyone was interested. I would assume that most large mercury dealers would have one. |

I was actually looking for one that someone had in a shop. Getting close to end of season, and I'm still tuning. Just wondering. Are they reliable/safe? Thanks. Brad. |
Someone did mention "drive killer"

I saw that. Thanks. Brad. |
Well Doc, how did the dyno session go?

He posted it here:

Snap thanks for referring me to Ray. He is a great guy and has a really nice facility. They do race car chassis and set up as well. I don’t think there’s anything he and his son couldn’t tackle.
He told me that you had called him. I appreciate that. Ray is having Willy’s do a custom carb for me and gave me things to check after the Dyno session. i drained and filtered the oil, cut open the oil filter, pulled the plugs and valve covers, turned the engine over and checked all the rockers and pushrods. Everything looked good. Oil and filter looked good. Some very fine metallic particles from break in. The craziest thing I saw was paint chips from the marking paint on the valve springs. It makes me think that I should have stripped the paint off of them. I don’t know maybe pro builders do do that. |
He is a super nice guy with the nicest, cleanest shop I have ever been in. He has taken care of me for probably 30 years now. I don't remember how I got "in" with him, but I am glad I did. I have been able to get engines built in a couple of weeks when it takes most people months or even years to get theirs done elsewhere. And all of the vintage race cars in his stable are just plain cool.
A little history; Before Ray had his engine dyno, we would use the one at Willy's, which is just a couple hours up the road. In return, Ray would refresh Willy's test mule Nascar engines that got absolutely beat to death developing carbs. There is a very good relationship there and the Willy's carbs are absolutely the best in the business. I have seen a 30+ hp gain on 700hp small blocks just by bolting on their carb. It doesn't make sense, but I have seen it multiple times. |

That's one thing that Eddie Young commented on after dyno tuning my engines, he told me the engines was super clean and whoever built them did a great job. Eddie replaces the oil filter with an adapter that has a small micron screen during dyno pulls, he will run an engine and then check to see what's inside. |
You'll love your Willy's carb. My dyno guy uses them exclusively. Quite a few of my customers have them on their rides.
