Cam for Stock 575 SCI

Looking for suggestions for a hydraulic roller cam for a couple mostly stock 575 SCI. They already have the 3-1/2" blower pulley and we are adding the Whipple low profile chiller and doing some bowl blending and runner work on the heads. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You have the GM factory Rec Port 088 heads? 2.19/1.88?

These heads will perform, but the exaust port is less than stellar for NA...never mind a SC.

What are you looking at for HP goal? What RPM?

Keeping the TBI?

Using the opportunity to bump up the RPM a bit to 5500 (from the Merc peak spec of 4800-5200) would get you more HP and take strain off the drives a bit. Maybe with more HP form the upgrades...your current props may workout going higher rpm.

I have been looking for the cam card that I put in my 575, but have been unable to locate it. Eddie Young spec'd it and it was ground by Bullet cams. I would give him a call.

I have talked to Eddie .Great guy. Knows his stuff. However his package includes his new injection and fuel system. Didn't seem like he had anything for stock setup.
the engines currently have the 3-1/2" pulley and the red line is set at 5400 RPM. Basically looking for a hydraulic roller to replace that flat tappet and gain a little more power.

Eddie's cam, injection and fuel system were a great upgrade for my motors! Night and day difference starting and idling and gained more power too.

I'd put a 525EFI cam in it

cam lift. .632 on both

I went with dart iron eagle heads when I upgraded

You’ll want to get rid of that horrible merc ECM tune also

A lot of good information. Appreciate the replies.

What started out as a 'freshen up", for a friend, has turned into a total rebuild. My experience is with drag racing on 4 wheels so this go fast boat stuff is a bit different. From my research the 525 EFI / Teague Stage 2 cam seem like the logical choice. I suspect that the TBI setup is not performing optimally even the with Arizona Speed tune. So it's likely we'll wind up with Eddie's injector setup or something similar. And then there's the blower.

Make sure you upgrade the head gaskets, I'm doing heads and cam on my sci 575 right now. I speced out a cam.

Use the gm hydraulic roller kit, comes with everything.
cometic gaskets, 4.5 or 4.530 bore.
I would use young performance cam, I had a cam otherwise I would of used his.
I have his injection upgrade and it's a must imo. Engine runs much cleaner and smoother. Very easy to install. 2 hr job.

I'm doing the whipple intercooler with afr 315 cnc heads the cam and i have a blower shop replacement blower. Should make 750-775 hp at 56-5800 and be very reliable.
