Small B&M supercharger rebuild
Hello all,
I've got a B&M 174 that is in running condition but I'm thinking of going ahead and getting it refreshed.. new bearings and new teflon strip's installed.. Obviously, TBS can do this, but I'm in KY and shipping alone would be pretty costly.. Can you guy's give me some other options on reputable shops who provide a good service at a reasonable price? Thanks 😊 |
Back in the oso haydays many used the following place for their small sc’s:

When I went to redo my 177's TBS wasn't taking any outside blowers, they were only rebuilding their own brand. They recommended Martin Superchargers. I ended up sending them to DMPE and they had a difficult time rebuilding one of mine and it took them almost 4 months to get it done. I put 10 hrs on the motors and I had a motor lean out. When I took the rebuilt supercharger off there were issues with teflon strip and few other things. I sent them to Martin Superchargers and the service was awesome. He had them maybe 3 weeks and had them back to me. He called me and discussed the issues and due to no parts available what he was going to do to fix it. So far so good.

I had Martin Superchargers repair a 177 for me, shipping to Cali and back to KY was not bad.

The 420s use the rotor aluminum as a bearing surface. Not sure on the 177s. Getting a proper race machined and insatell on the rotors would be worth while. |
What will a rebuild cost??? Here is a NOS on ebay for 2k B&M 174 Supercharger Blower | eBay

It was Jan 21 when I contacted TBS and they said they weren't doing any rebuilds so I sent them to DMPE. I won't give the exact price to rebuild but DMPE (1/21) and Martin (10/22) were pretty close and Martin was a little cheaper. The cost to rebuild was roughly half the price of the one listed on Ebay.
