nosecone problems
 

I just installed nosecones on my bravo drives with low water pickups. I placed the drives back on the boat and find that when drives wil be trimed in, the nosecones will hit the transom. this will happen on the last 1/2" of travel. I know this wouldn't happen if the x wasn't so high. Do they make any kind of stops that would clamp on the rams? Anybody have any ideas:( :mad:

You can put spacers in the trim rams to limit the travel. You can get them from your local Merc. dealer. Very inexpensive themselves, but then you need to also purchase reseal kits for the rams.

what year are you drives?
the later bravo's have an elongated
slot with were the cylinder pin goes through
the drive, there is a spacer that can be moved to
the outside, toward the end of the cavitation plate,
this will limit the amount of "in" trim.
i remember reading somewere, the reason merc.
did this was for bravo III applications, where,
due to the twin props stern lift characteristics,
some boats would "heel" over to one side when
operating in full down position.
i dont know when the exact year this changed,
but to B3's have been around a few years now.

Also some transom assy. have "A" "B" blocks on the foward trim piston pin between the gimbal ring,just before the oval hole in the drive was introduced they were used the set the trim in for Bravo Three. 95? 96? 97? not sure.

Is that going to effect your getting on plane since the drive will always be trimed up slightly??? If the drive is mounted that high than is the tip of the nose even in the water stream even when trimmed up to race hight?? If it isn't than what I would do is just blunt the nose a little.

Thanks Guys I'm going to copy this thread and if the weather is good friday I will see if they have the elongated slot or A B slot. If it dosent I will have to buy the spaces that rpm talked about. Tinkerboater, I dont know how if it will effect getting on plane I hope not. I have some down trim but. A little over half of what I should have. When the boat is exact level on trailer and propshaft is level,height of propshaft is even with bottom of the boat. Two people with same boat I know one i/o and the other outboards are setup with same hight and they get on plane. I'm just hoping that the low water pickups work. I guess I can always buy spacers.Boy,this high x dem. is really breaking my apples while assembling this boat! From exhaust to engine cover to nosecone. But I still can't wait for the first ride!!! WOW, that is a HIGH X--like 22 inches. It should shoot one hell of a rooster tail and run like a surface drive. Don't know about getting on plane. What kind of boat??

Its a 30'cobra wth twin 540hps tunnel. The drives are 1995 bravos with 136 gears. I have never driven the boat yet [bought it as a project] so i'm hoping for the best
