Resetting 555 Mercury Codes?

Does anyone know how to do this? I'm told you turn the ignition on and disconnect the battery ground to reset the trouble codes and the limp home system. Is this right?

Thanks, to anyone who can help. The motor is the new 525 EFI and information is hard to come by. Like no manuals yet.....:confused:
