AN fittings and hose sizing..

I am looking for information on AN fitting sizes. Are they comparable to fraction sizes...

for example does

-04 = 1/4" ?

-06 = 1/2" ? ect..

is there a rule of thumb for sizing these fittings.. Like I want to use 5/8" ID hose on my oil lines, what "- fitting" would be the same size ect..

Thanks

Travis

Hi Travis,
AN sizes are in 1/16" increments so #8 is 1/2, #4 is 1/4, etc.
#10 is 10/16=5/8". There are several brands out there, some easier to use than others. Aeroquip is my preference for ease of assembly. Some advertisers say their seal is better, but, for what you are doing, I have never had any problem. This braided steel hose can really stick you so watch out!!! There are many tricks and I can save you a lot of time and money. Call me for assistance or just to talk! 704-574-4020

Here is the Aeroquip catalog, look under "technical information" this gives all the sizes of threads and ID's of hose.

It looks like the ID of the fittings would be a -12 for roughly 5/8" .61. On my fuel lines we used -8 hose and fittings Builder said the tube in the tank was no larger and with that going to a larger hose would be a waste. Seems to work fine so far.
