GeoGraphics If we both agree that auto style paint looks better and performs well! what is the differance if I paint a custom paint job on a new car or tuck or a boat.If it is new there is no body work! so no need to prime,So we are going to sand, tape ad color, tape some more ad color, so on & so on then clear the panel . I know its not quit that easy or every one would do it but where is the differance in the application?

I believe the main difference is the need for a high quality primer to adhere to the gelcoat. Simply roughing up a new paint job will work, but paint or clear won't adhere for very long to gelcoat.

I've bought 2 boats that had clear coat painted over gel. It was peeling off. I sanded it all down, 300, 500, then 1000 grit. Then a slow speed buffer, and had the gell looking as good as new. Sold both boats at a very nice profit.
