Bilge Pumps (whats in a name???)
1 Attachment(s)
I have the oppertunity to change / replace my bilge pumps in the engine compartment. One is broke the other is fine. Should I replace the broken one with the same (Lovett 1200) or go to something better? Bilge pumps are not my specialty... Is there one that is concidered better than the rest??
here is what I have now: |
both of the fountains i have had had those pumps and have never had on go bad, then again i have never really needed one if you know what i mean.

I would not want to drill new holes, the new Lovett will line up in the old holes.

I have always sworn by Rule.....until my computerized-checks-for-water-by-it's-self failed and caused motor damage upon startup after sittin gon the beach for about an hour. It never came on. And there WAS water over the crank pully, so I KNOW the pump was submersed.

I seen the Rules, They must be running Win XP if it didn't work! :D :D
Drilling holes not much of a problem (I allready calked the others) with the engines out it's an easy job. So no one makes an "HP500" version of a bilge pump?? eh? or how about a "billet bilge pump"??? Just figured I would ask just incase I was missing something. Thanks!!! |
I don't think you can beat a Lovett.
Most of the older wooden boats have Lovetts. And they use them, ALOT. |
Per the report on bilge pumps issued by
powerboat reports ( do a google search on bilge pumps, see a comparison test of 20). This report is NOT by powerboat Magazine. Powerboat Reports does not accept any advertizing, so hopefully the give actual performance reviews. Anyway... @ 13.6 volts the Lovett 1200 exceeded its rating, but missed it's 1200 gpm performance if voltage dropped to 12.3 vdc. The Rule-Mate 1500 was rated #7, but did not loose as much performance as the Lovett, & was rated as a good value. Still the Lovett was #1. Both pumps are approximately the same price when discounted (again use Google), I found them less than $10.00 difference @ $119.00 ea. The Lovett however is much larger in "footprint" size than the Rule. So now what??? |
