formula31 01-07-2003 09:43 PM

What compression?

Dave F 01-08-2003 07:42 AM

Around 8-10 initial and 34 total, give or take 2 assuming octane used is proper for the application, as formula31 is implying.

If your compression is below 9-1 and your running marine pump gas~89, you can go as high as 36 but be safe and go 34. If your compression is higher you would want to go 32 or less. There are many other factors involved though.

You guys are right!!
The only way to get it right on any combination is to do plug chercks. If you do not know how to read plugs, find someone who does and consult with them. If notheing else, pm me and I will try to help. The best AVERAGE TIMING curve to start with is about what DaveF suggested, but do a SHORT run and check plugs!! This is a time consuming and boring task, but totally necessary!!
Have a great day!!

Yea, i know about that, I have to pull an engine to get at plugs. Fortunately, i know my setup pretty well or I thought I did, seems I am misteriously running rich now.
