Gen VI hyd. roller lifters?

Fellas,
Apparently my engine guy set one of the new hyd. roller lifters down in my block, but the roller end of the lifter didn't even come close to contacting the cam before the link bar bottomed out on the top of lifter bore. Are there more than one type of hydraulic roller lifter for the Gen VI big block? (this is a 502)

One final thought, what are the differences between a Gen V and Gen VI block?

Link bar on a Gen 6?

Why aren't you using (for example) Crane 13535 or GM 17120061.

With these you can use GM roller tappet guides 12551397 and
guide retainer 12551399

Top it off with an oil shield 12555320

There are many differences between the Mark 4 and the Gen 5&6 lifters. The 4's use the bar, and are shorter. There are some aftermarket manufacturers that make the Gen 6 lifters with the bars for blocks like the Dart that can utilize the taller lifters, but that's what you have to make sure of.

So, to answer your question there are two different length lifters using the bar.

There are several differences from the 4's to the 5&6's. The biggest is the water passages, therefore affecting the heads and their gaskets, oil pan's because of the crank and it's one piece rear seal. And don't forget about your question, the 5&6's are machined for hydraulic roller cams (for the parts I listed above) and it's thrust plate therefore no longer needing the button. There are several others but, most other stuff will fit.

Differences

Lets see, this is what I've learned:

Gen VI came out in 1996:

Roller lifters and a boss in the valley for a guide plate.

6 Bolt Aluminum timing chain cover

Other than that, I believe they are equal otherwise.

Thanks Fellas!

I'm gonna meet with him tomorrow evening and take a look. At this point, I can only communicate what he told me over the phone.

Looks like GM p/n 12371056 is the ticket. (16 hyd. roller lifters, 8 tappet guides and tappet guide retainer)

Gen VI it is. This one uses the 6 bolt aluminum timing chain cover.

I'll post some pics and a progress report tomorrow eve.

Good. I'm glad you saw that kit number. I meant to post it but forgot.

That oil shield works well too. Just snaps in.
