Fuel Pump/Water Seperator

Should the Fuel Pump be located before or after the Water Seperator/Filter. Presently, mine is setup with the seperator after the fuel pump. It makes for a "not so neat" fuel line layout. No problems so far. Would like to tidy things up a bit.
This is for a supercharger application.
Thanks, once again, for any replies.

I would think it should be before the pump to stop debris from getting into it possibly causing damage.
But then it would have trouble filling the filter when you change it.

Now I wonder which is correct.

Mine is before the pump, original setup. The pump will still suck fuel through the filter when replaced or drained . At least mine does.

You should never pressurize any fuel filter with fuel pressure if there is an alternative. A leak of the filter (mounted before the pump) will only suck air. A leak of the filter (when mounted after the pump) will spew gas all over the engine compartment before it is noticed. Very dangerous!
This is one of the reasons why marine engines don't have the electric fuel pump mounted in the gas tank like an automotive engine. The water fuel separator would have to be fully pressurized with fuel.

Before the pump is the preferred method. If you look up a fuel system schematic from almost anyone in the horsepower/fuel business, they always have a filter BEFORE the pump-even electric. Any water in the system, pumps on will be a problem.
Even Mercruiser mounts the water separator/filter before any pump.
