575SCI.. What Gen Block?
I have a 02 575SCI. Being so new I assumed it's a Gen 6 block but it appears to have a mechanical fuel pump. I think I've read here on OSO that it would have electric fuel pump if it was Gen 6. I believe it has a roller cam. Anybody know what it is? Thanks

It was my understanding that it was a Gen 6 block as well, but honestly can't say for sure.

The mechanical fuel pump is
driven off the seawater pump assembly, i think all 502's from 96' on are gen 6, they don't use a roller cam. jt |
jt has it right... Dad and I just took my uncles motor out and laughed about it, thats how they got around not running a electric pump, they run a mechanical off the seawater pump.
And the mechanical fuel pump is not the same as normal mechanical fuel pump which mount on the block.. The one on the merc are indexed different. and it does not have a roller cam.. and all big block from 1996 on up is a gen 6. travis |
Thanks for the info. I guess I didn't look close enough. Just assumed when I saw a mechanical style pump. Ya know where that gets you. The question came up as I'm finalizing plans to install a whipple intercooler and a pulley change and it was suggested that we might have to upgrade the fuel system to support the increased horsepower. I must have misunderstood what was said about the roller cam. Roller rockers maybe?

I thought 575 had a hydraulic roller cam...

mercs website listed it as a hydraulic camshaft.. the other motors from merc that run rollers were listed as hyraulic roller camshaft.....
hmm does anybody know LOL! |
Yep, the website clearly omits the magic "roller" word. Shows hyd roller on 525, shows hydraulic tappet on 575, shows roller cam on 900... hmm
