Fuel Stabilizer
 

My boat has about a half tank of fuel right now as it sits. I've added 2 small bottles of fuel stabilizer to it.

1. Is this enough?
2. How do you guys normally do this?

First, read the instructions on the bottle. It'll tell you how much to add to fresh fuel.
Second, you should've done this months ago. You need to run the engine to make sure it gets into the whole fuel system. Stale gas can clog carbs and injectors.

What I do is, I'll add it to a full tank, launch and run it for half an hour or so. Replace what I burned and add more stabilizer. This way I know it's through the lines, filters and into the carb. I do the same with the jet-ski's. Those carbs clog up real fast.

For you guys in the northern states, do you add dry-gas to your tanks too?

Stay away from Dry Gas as it will deteriorate components of the fuel system!

It's not available here and we don't need it in Florida anyway.

Well when I added the stabilizer the boat was sitting......it hasn't been run since.........will this cause probs?

It won't cause problems, but you aren't getting all the benifits of the product. It needs to get in the fuel lines/pump/carb/injectors to work properly!

yeah thats what i figured.....so right now when I fire her up next spring she'll more then likely have clogged injectors/carb/etc.

Most products run a ratio of 1oz to five gallons of fuel.

IGGY is right you need to run it into the engine
I change the oil, filter and water seperator, add the Marine
stabilzer specifically for boats! Pennzoil makes a pretty good stuff
I put fresh gear lube in too, then I get engine up to operating temp and add my antifreeze is last, I drain my manifolds
then check to make sure the antifreeze that came out tests
out for my area which this year is looking lower than I though.
So here in NY where is been around 0 for the last few weeks
I put a 200 watt heater on the oil pan just to be safe.

Don't worry about not adding fuel stablizer. I have been boating in Michigan for 26 years and have never had a fuel storage problem yet and I don't use a fuel stabilizer to store. What I would be concerned with is the 1/2 full fuel tank. You should really try to store the boat with the tank almost full. I say almost, because you want to leave a small amount of room in the tank for expansion when the weather gets warm while the boat is still in storage. That way, the gas won't run out of your vent and stain your gel coat. Before I store, I fill the boat up with fuel, go out for about a 20 ride, to burn a little fuel out, and while the engine is warm, change oil and filter, and winterize. If you want to use stablizer, fine, but you really don't need it for a 6 month layover.
