Good article on detonation
Heres a link to an article on detonation. I poached it from one of my motorcycle boards and thought some of you might want to read it.

Chris,
That was quite an article, I had a problem with an engine failure supposidly caused by detonation. After reading the article I have formed my own opinion of what caused my problem.
Thanks
Brian

What a great article.
That is very accurate. I might add that detonation happens when the maximum combustion pressure or maximum combustion temperature is reached for the fuel that is being used.
Combustion pressures normally caused by compression ratio or boost.
Combustion temperatures normally caused by engine temp or mixture ratio.
Either of these exceeding the fuel's resistance to them causes an instantaneous release of the remaining energy.
I hate it when that happens.
