Blown Trans
I just blew up the torque converter on my 99 F250. I was backing the boat up the drive way? I know that I was useing a lot of engine speed to get the boat to move and will pay for my stupidity. My question is, is there a way to lock the surge brakes off of an eagle trailer when backing up a hill?

My friend had one and there was hole to put a pin in(phillips screwdriver) to lock out the master cyl. it was right behind the tongue if I remember. sorry about your trans.

Thanks for the reminder.
I double checked the tongue of the trailer and can not find any way to lock out the brakes. My friends trailer also has a switch that can be pulled to lock out the brakes but I can not see anything on my trailer. On the bright side, I looked at the trans closer now that things have cooled and I am hopeing that it is only the front seal that let go. The fluid does not smell burnt and there are no metal flakes in the fluid. I guess I'll find out when I have it torn down. |
Free backing brakes are available for around $200 a pair. They work great.
BUT, if you don't already have a reverse lockout on the tongue slider, it would be too easy to drill a pin hole in the slider like was mentioned. |
Not disc brakes are they?

I had an automatic one that worked when the backing lights went on and it sucked rocks. I took it out and put in a manual valve from a hardware store. I have to get out to lock or unlock the brakes but at least it works well. The other advantage is if pressure is on when I switch it the brakes are locked. I always block the wheels but this also adds a measure of protection aginst the trailer rolling away.

I have a 5 pin plug on my Trailer I just flip it over and plug it in and turn on the running lights. (It ends up being offset one pin) This electrically releases the reverse lock out solenoid. I also have the hole in the tounge for the pin if the electric does not work

I have drum brakes, not disc. I thought of drilling a hole to put a pin in and sounds like that is the easiest way to go.
