7.4 GSI mpi/efi good or bad ?
 

Hi Guys,
I'm considering a pair of (basiclly new) volvo full dressed 7.4 engines for my re-rig. I wondering how these engines would compare to their merc couterparts. These '98 volvo engines are rated at 385hp. I have searched and been unable to find any details about the internals. The induction system also looks like the 500efi intake, but volvo calls it an MPI. These engines are complete with the factory ecm and it appears the rev limit is 5200. Is the ECM a GM part or is it particular to merc or volvo?
Are these engines a good starting point for future mods, if after a season I find I need more HP?

I don't know anything about Volvos' , but if you are planning on modifying these motors, you should find out if anyone can re-map those E.C.U.'s before making a decision. I would advise not getting involved with Volvos'. If for nothing else, just for the availability of parts and knowledge. While the internal engine parts will be the same, the electronics will not be.
