WATER IN 500 efi
Turns out my broken starter was the result of water in 2 cylinders. CMI headers were leaking at the flange.
Motor ran fine, aside from difficult starting and lower oil pressure. Is there likely to be any "hidden damage" I should look out for? I am installing new valve springs and retainers, as long as the boat is apart. Anything else I need to do? Thanks! |
I would be concerned with bent connecting rods and damaged rod bearings, although I have seen what you've described turn out not to cause any ill affects.
Good luck Pete, BT  |
I'd consider replacing the exhaust valves. They don't like reversion and tend to get brittle. The head will pop off and then things will get interesting.
If the motor hydrauliced then you could definetly have a bent rod. The motor may run normally, but the rod will flex until it finally breaks. Again, things will get interesting. So the question is...how much risk are you willing to accept? |
