Flexplates?

I'm having a streak of bad luck.
I put the boat in at Haulover on Friday night, to head to the OSO party by water. You didn't see my boat because we didn't make it.
The flexplate on the left motor went as soon as I hit the gas.
I've never had this happen before. The boat has 250 hours on it. Only 8 of those 250 are mine.
Is this a common thing? Should I have them change the right side when they repair the left side? I don't want the right one to let loose next weekend!

Damnit!

Is it a flex plate or a standard Mercruiser coupler? If it is a coupler, they do have grease fittings where the spline enters, and should be greased every service.

Coupler

They're standard Merc stuff.

The prior owner wasn't too keen on maintenance...
I would really like to get my hands around his neck!!

Been there , done that:mad: I had my boat 2 weeks and broke one and it was supposed to have 2 new ones. Well when fixed be sure to check engine /drive alignment. That was my problem.
Replaced the starboard coupler and aligned the engine then found it was 2" higher than the port , so did that one too. That was three seasons ago and no troubles since:cool:

Coupler

The boys at Pantera are taking care of my problem. Those boys really know their chit.. I'm sure that the things will be lined up 100%.
They said the splines were worn off... Is this from lack of grease?

Anybody else seen this fail???

(I know everybody is filling up their grease guns..)

If it's a coupler and not a flexplate/drive plate. Yes, it's common on bravos. Lack of lube, poor alignment, another weak bravo part are the main reasons.
