Replace plastic raw water pump with brass?

I need to replace raw water pump impeller. Has anyone had experience with the brass pump body kit? Is it worth the extra cost? Is replacement of the impeller easier? Will it perform better? My boat is powered by M-3 Procharged 502 Mag. Thanks in advance.

KY, ( I love writing that)
Ive only used the plastic one. Where did you see the brass one? Hows that eliminator running? Are you above the 84 mph mark yet? Hows the handling ? I havent driven mine yet and am just curious. Greg

I have used both. the brass pump last longer and you dont ever break it putting it back together well worth the extra money. I now run kieth eickerts duel stage one impeller for the intercooler one for the engine. 2 509 eickerts w/stage 3 prochargers

We run the brass ones too...they are the Imco ones.

I agree with the crew...

I started with the plastic version, when it broke apart sending the plastic through my cooler and engine. Instead of just replacing the unit and impeller, I got to spend a few hours flushing out the whole engine.

I went with the Jabsco (spelling) version and it has held up for 2 seasons without any issues.

Good luck

brass jabsco is the one i ran I put about 550 hours on them before having to re bearing them. about 35 $ apice also if you burn up a impeller on the brass one it does not destroy the housing godd luck

And what would it cost to change over?

SCARABJ 02-18-2003 09:30 PM

I think you can get them new for about 230$ I have 2 just sitting let me know they have new bearings with about 20 hours since rebuilds. james.
