Dual Tie-bar application...
 

Can a dual tie bar application be utilized WITHOUT any consequenses??? Right now I have a tie-bar between the wing plates on my Bravo XR drives. I have an extra tie-bar sitting around my shop that I thought I might use down where the trim cylinders bolt on to the end of each drive (near the cavitation plate) for a little added safety----I know it's probably not necessary, but I thought I would put it to use. However, I was once told it can cause the gimble bearing to wear excessively because the drives tend to bind somewhat with a dual bar set-up.

Steve AKA "Rampage" has this type of set-up for a few years and has NOT had any problems (which is a GOOD thing) and I was just wondering if anyone else has had any experiences with this type of set-up good or bad. Thanks

we use a dual set-up on the race boat...a few more tricks as well to prevent external damage.

if everything is very tight?...if you happen to trim one drive and not the other,,,it WILL bust the gimbal.

you'll never need it kaama...don't bother....when you start to bust drive housings, transome assemblies, and engine blocks:rolleyes: ...then have a look.

actually most bars that go on the trim cylinders are sloppy anyway.

Like I said, I already have a spare tie-bar sitting around the shop anyway--- and I thought I'd put it to use. I would guess that you're talking about being RADICALLY UNEVEN trim between the two drives in order for them to bust the gimble though---right? I have mechanical drive/trim indicators so it shouldn't be a problem. I haven't quite made up my mind yet, but I REALY do appreciate your input Joe! Thanks! :)

actually F2-1 went to our current set-up after having a few issues...the set-up is VERY tight...so it does take much....if it's not tight?...why bother!
