Converting from King Cobra to Bravo 1
I have a 1989 Switzer with the Ford 460ci and this ugly grey OMC King Cobra outdrive hanging off the back. So far it has not caused me any problems, however I am wondering that if the outdrive breaks, how much modification has to be done to install a Bravo 1, or even if this can be done?

As I recall,
the transom cut out is the same, you would have to add an engine mounted sea pump, the "ford" part of the equation might give you some problems with bell housing and coupler. |
That is a very strong outdrive, leave it alone!

Apache22, like I said, the Cobra has not caused me any problems, but parts are getting harder and harder to find. So I am just planning ahead to see if I could put a Bravo on.

If your exhaust exits thru the prop and not thru the transom, you may have to change the exhaust tubes going to the outdrive prop exit also. Im not sure about manifolds and risers. I know manifolds and risers are propriatary to each manufactuers set up for exhaust. So this may be another consideration. As I have heard that the drive you have is a tough unit, it is no longer made, which means parts will limited and expensive. Bombadier/Seadoo owns them now just as an FYI.
Ultimately... if it aint dont fix it ! |
Keep good oil in it and paint it black if the color bothers you. A very tough outdrive, I had one.
