I use royal purple and never have had a problem, knock on wood for 4yrs. everything is still good. Why don't more people us it.

I went down to talk to them the other day... New Drive (theirs) to see what oil. They told me that the Redline oil does foam and that was why they changed. I asked Dino (Head Eng), why? Did you get a better deal or what??? He stayed with the same response that they found more failures when the oil started to foam. Amsoil has not shown those characteristics in their testing, therefore they changed.

Food for thought - I now have Amsoil... :fish:

Everyone can use what they think best but Redline For myself and others has proven itself for years ,,,,,years really .

Amsoil is good put does not provide the shock proof feature
I have never had it foam or cause anything other than good shifting and protection they promised I use amsoil in motors
so I have no reason not to in the drive execpt it does work as well

I put this question to a merc person some time ago. His explanation was that they had tried the other oils. Some were better than their current product. But each had a negative that was greater than the positive. One example already mentioned was foaming. Another is how slippery the product is. The clutches still need to grab so the oil can't make things too slippery. Bobby was going there with his comment. Ultimately, I'm using the merc green.

I personally as well as a couple of friends have run redline in bravos for several years at rpm in excess of 7200 and 940+ hp with no oil breakdown or foaming problems. Maybe just lucky I don't know but will continue to use it.

I switched to the Redline Shock Proof Heavy and after about 20 hours and I have not had the foaming problem.

I have a B-Max drive behind a 1200 hp motor and I started with the Redline Shockproof heavy duty. It shifted really smoothly but as Troutly stated above, it foamed badly and ran out the (extra large) reservoir bottle all over the back of the transom when I ran it hard. I then switched to the Amsoil 2000 gear oil and it doesn't foam or run out but it now doesn't shift nearly as smoothly. Also, I just found out that I had a lower bearing failure on the vertical shaft. This is the second time that this bearing (location) has failed. I don't know if it has to do with the gear oil or not. Has anyone tried the Redline light duty shock proof gear lube? It's supposed to not foam as much as the Heavy Duty stuff.
