Foot Rest retrofit

Anyone ever install foot rests in their boat?

My boat does not have them and I would like to install some that are removeable. This is due to the fact that access to all the electrical connections, guages and mechanical indicators is thru a fold down panel below the helm. Not a good design Wellcraft.

I was thinking of having some brackets fabricated that can be bolted to the floor but I am kinda leary about not being able to thru bolt and end up usings lags.

Any suggestions?

footrest

After giving consideration to McLeod electric footrests I built two very simple ones myself. I simply made a wedge the size I wanted out of ¼ in birch plywood. The front sits directly to the bulkhead underfoot. I resin coated the wood extremely well and built some support on the underside for strength. My boat has red carpet so I used the same red carpet to cover my footrests. I used contact cement and tucked the carpet under and stapled it inside. They look great, are very solid and inexpensive and do exactly what I need them to do. Total cost was less than $100.00

My footrest simply sits on the carpet. No sliding around or anything problematic. Two years and running.

The McLeods are awesome but are very pricey. Actually, I was not able to get a price from anyone on the McLeods. I based my cost estimate on pricing shown in Powerboat mag boat tests with the McLeods installed. Specifically a Formula 382 Fastech. They were shown as several thousand dollars. Too much for me to consider for a footrest.
