what's the best way to go????? I have a 33' fountain with twin 500 hp carb. using bravo 1's and four blade 28's, boat does 78-80 respectivly at sea level. I am looking for 88-90 and supercharging seems to be the answer. question, which set up??? do I now need xr drives for the extre hp?? do they have a bolt on for no EFI.....any thought to save me some brain damage???

Whipple has a beautiful intercooled system for you motors. Get these and look no where else.

I second the Whipple nomination. Look around on this board and the other and you'll see Dustin chime in with a wealth of application experience. I telephoned and emailed Dustin on numerous occasions and always receive prompt replies. In my opinion, based on the feeback on this board, the Whipple is much more refined and perfected package than the others.

My $0.02,
10mph is going to take about 5psi. A 177 blower is fairly cheap and easy bolt on, but will be at it's limit on a 502 cid motor. That takes you to the next step up, a B&M 250 with a couple carbs. For a couple bucks more, you can Whipple it. I'm not sure if you'll need a new carb with the Whipple. I've never bought one, but I have not heard anything bad about Whipple superchargers (rare in the Marine industry), and actually heard a lot of good stuff.
You could go with a centrifugal too, but the plumbing gets a little complex with a carb blow thru system.
Email Dustin.
Then drive it till you blow a drive and buy a couple upgraded ones.

I have whipples on my PQ they work awesome, If you desire you could even switch over to the whipple and at the same time convert to EFI, It would be more money but depending on your climate it may offer better starting and idling. For all your options call Dustin Whipple He is a great guy and really knows his product.

Ray's the man,

This guy goes at like Jurassic Park- "I spared no expense" on anything he does. Seriously, check out his personal site and you'll be amazed at the attention to detail and pride in his work.

Whipple has just got a wealth of application experience and a huge amount of installations under their belt. This has gotta count for something. I'm a 40 something (6 1/2 in dog years) and I still recall seeing the Whipple adverts in the old Hot Rod mags we used to drool over when we were kids.

I have a pair of Whipples on 454 Mags with carbs and I would highly recommend Whipples to anyone. They are a quality product and Dustin and his team are fantastic.

AZFOUNTAIN, like cobra said, whipple has a very nice system for your application and if you want to switch to EFI they can set you up as well. If you go with whipple, you will be pleasantly surprized because the acceleration is awesome and you probably hit your goal and then some. I would bet you will be in the low 90's without doing anything esle.

We have a Whipple on our 27' Fountain. Budgeting for XR's would not be a bad idea. Even being extremely easy on the Bravo I, we ate two drives in a row. If you do supercharge, Whipples over ProCharger any day. Dustin does seem interested in quality and service. Second tip. Without blower pistons to lower compression ratio, or aluminum cylinder heads, I might be tempted to run low boost for longevity. Third tip. Spend the money and go EFI. Great idle, no stumble, linear power.
