? about merlin heads

A friend is redoing his motors with merlin heads . He found out the hard way you need different studs and pushrods . I guess the head is a different height ? Now he tells me his stock 502 intakes won't work without 1/4" spacers ! IS this true or is the engine guy rippin him !?!? Thanks , JOE

Boot-
I do know the exhaust ports are raised, and that the OUTER row of studs are longer- I don't remember anything special required for the pushrods. He should call World products to confirm. The heads do work- did he get the VR marine heads?

Good Luck!

Pushrods are the same...he needs 8 longer head bolts for around the ext ports.
Intakes are EXACTALY the same!!!...does he have tall blocks???

When I was using merlin VR heads the intake & exhaust pushrods needed to be .200 longer that stock one. This was with stock height block.

The things I noticed about my Merlin heads are valves are two different sizes, the exhaust ports are raised and the rockers sit higher.

I hope all intake and exhaust are same size and you just misprinted .
the exhaust are raised 400 thousath,,most of the time I have to change push rods and use vega head bolts (4) if the customer doesn't want a whole new set , you should not need spacer !!:D :D :D

BE AWARE!!! the head bolts on a MkV are not the same as the MkIV!!. The V head bolts are Shorter and the IV bolts will bottom out! ARP makes the correct ones and they are much more$$$.
If you are using the same block and intake, you should not need spacers. The exhaust ports are raised, but that is seldom a problem.
They told me last week they don't offer the Marine head any longer

I think merlin stop the marine heads a little more than a year ago. mine have 2.25 intake and 1.88 exhaust.Had to buy the eight bolts and washers. As for the push rods stock exhaust was as close to correct without having to have custom ones made and went shorter on the intake. If I rember right put her together with .030 to long on the exhaust and .040 to long on the intake.I to was told exhaust was the same hight and I did not need spacers.

The valve stems where two different sizes. The reason I found out was during installing the springs that cam with the cam.
