Edelbrock heads
Has anyone tried the Edelbrock aluminum large oval port marine heads for BBC yet? Just inquiring on any experiences with them. Dennis Moore had an article on them a while back, and I haven't heard anything about them since. Are these what Mercury uses on their 525 motor? I'm debating putting them on a modified 330hp, but not sure if they are going to gain me much over my existing large oval port heads.
Thanks.!:D |
If you check Teague On Tech in Powerboat Magazine, he recommended them, along with other mods, for the 7.4.

Ive been thinking about them for the future when I can afford them. I think they have a 110 cc combustion chamber which will up the compression and the weight savings should be considerable but I also wonder if they will do much for a 454 on steroids.

I used them on my boat. Had them ported to flow about 280/290
at .550 lift. Put them on a stock 7.4 short block, stock cam. Ran them with 3 different intakes. All with a 750 Holley double pumper. They worked great. Tried an Air Gap, Torker II and Performer RPM. The Torker II worked the best. If I had had a chance to change the cam there would have been a tremendous increase. |
I've got a pair...big improvement over the stock rect. port heads...intake volume [290cc] is about perfect for a 500-525hp big block...these heads are also a very good value...make sure the springs that come with them a compatable w/ your cam or vice versa. They come with inconel valves and are hard coat anodized and the 112cc chamber [or 100cc] is perfect for a bolt on on respective merc engines...like I said, big bang for the buck.
