Correct way to time a TB 5 for max performance?
 

Ok, so I have a 1995 7.4L carbed motor. I am changing heads intake carb exhaust and distrib. (454 Mag) so I want to know the rite way to set the timming on this ignition set up. I have a digital advace light and have 1/2 an idea how to use it :D Any help will be great. Thanks Rag's

You mean the basic way to use a light with advance????
If so, crank your motor up to 3000rpm and shoot your light at it. Turn the knob until the line on the balancer lines up with the 0 mark on tab. read the dial on light. Thats your max advance timing.

Sorry for my smart remark. I once read something about haveing to ground one of the wites on the TB 5 to get the corect timing? does this sound right. Just dont want to have problems. Rag's

Ground the purple and white lead that has a a plug in the end of it. Then time it like a standard ignition. Otherwise it always hunts for "mean best timing" and the spark is constantly moving around.

You say you will be using the distributor from a 454 Mag. Did it come with the ignition module? If not you will need to get a module from a 454 Mag because the module from your 7.4 will limit your revs to 4700. The heads and intake will probably help some but to really wake the engine up you will need to change the cam. The distributor from a 1995 7.4 and 454 Mag are the same. All you really need to change is the module.
