vortec superchrger ?

anyone have experience or opinions on this unit? ease of install? necessary to make motor mods before install or drive mods?

I purchased an "Extreme" Vortech charger from Livorsi Marine early last season. Put 160 hours on boat since. Kit from Livorsi (Gaffrig) included additional fuel booster pump, modified ECU, K&N filter, etc. Did not need any additional engine mods. I did have to update my Bravo 1 drive with the newer gear set ('99 drive) and have not had a single issue since. Had Livorsi do install. 64gps before - 77 gps after - dynoed at 625hp.

26sonic - What engine do you have? Carb or EFI? I have a carb kit based on Vortech supercharger that uses a large intercooler integrated into a modified carb box. This configuration increased an already supercharged 454 Magnum from 654 HP to 743 HP (May issue of Family & Performance boating).

26ZX Donzi - Glad to hear of your success. I think the Vortech supercharger is a good, efficient unit. I take it you have a 454(?) MPI engine that has the supercharger mounted on the right. You know how I feel about elbows in the intercooler ducting, but I must say that for a remote mounted intercooler, I like the way they designed this kit. What boost level gets you 625 HP? Have you ever measured pressure just after the compressor?

Tomcat & 26sonic,

502MPI with MEFI 3 system. Vortech mounted on right looking at front of engine, discharges straight into intercooler and then makes a 90 degree turn (awaiting Tomcat's new and improved ducting flow) into motor. I am not aware of the pressure just after the compressor - I will ask Ron at Livorsi if they measured it.

Would love to test a new Tomcat design for the injected motor. I followed your progress for your carb set up and naturally was quite impressed!

26sonic, From what I've heard, the Vortech settup that Livorsi sells does a good job without problems. I will be seeing Ron from Livorsi on Wednesday if you want me to ask him anything in particular. I would think a leakdown test would be a good place to start to confirm engine condition. New head gaskets might be wise if you have enough hours on the motor. Steve

509 sc, i have only 150hrs on my engine do i still need a head gasket change ?

Yes if it was new they need the fel-pro gaskets and I would change bolts to A.R.P. ect.
