Prop pitch, speedometer

I am currently running a S.S. Stileto 3 blade 14 1/4 by 19 prop and at wide open throttle 5000 rpm am going about 58 miles per hour. My boat is a 2002 Caravelle Interceptor 212 with a 5.0L M.P.I. with 260 h.p. I am wondering what type of prop will give me more speed at top end, do I need more pitch ? Also we were out yesterday running at wot for about 10 minutes and my speedometer started to drop it seemed like in 10 mph increments, we were going wide open and the speedo read 10 mph. We stopped for a couple minutes and started again and it was fine, can anyone help? Thank you very much.

never heard of such a thing unless the speedo had trash on it ,whats the max rpm for that motor ??

max rpm for this engine is 5000 rpm. thanks!

You're there. Adding more pitch might will decrease your rpm's and could have negative effect on top speed. You may be able to cheat and find a couple more mph out of a different prop by balancing or lab finishing. Check with any of the great prop guys on the board and they will help. (HoustonProp or Throttle Up Prop)

Thanks guys, cant wait till I am finished college so I can afford some of those big blocks so I wont have to worry about pitch! Stay cool!

try out board prop/

Thanks KC, anyway I bet the 19 stilleto pops out quick on plane ? you could try a laser two 21 pitch which is like a Mirage but really a outboard prop but has the large exhaust hole to help it plane out quicker ,and 9SHOULD RUN FASTER) IT HAS MORE RAKE WHICH WILL CREAT MORE LIFT AMD LESS DRAG AND FASTER SPEEDS,I HAVE ONE I WILL SEND YOU IF YOU WANT TO TRY IT OUT (NO OBLIGATION JUST LET ME KNOW /Darin:cool: I cant post my number as I need to send in some$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$:D oh is the speedo pickup in the outdrive or is it on the back of the boat/it may have kicked up or just loosing pressure at higher speeds.

You had trash in the speedo pickup tube. When you stopped and/or reversed the prop, it washed the junk out of/off of the pickup. I keep a 1/8 diameter drill bit glued into a piece of wood dowel. It is my pickup cleaner outer and works well using it with the boat in the water. It also floats, so if you drop it, it falls UP to the surface.
