Okay, got the brandy new Bravo drive ready to install and found some play in the ginball. I have IMCO single ram external steering but I need to get this play out. What has to be done to tighten this up? Do you have to remove the transom assembly or can it be done on the boat?

Please help me out here.
I need to get an idea and put together a parts list so I can start this weekend.

Where is the play, lower pin, upper pin?

It looks to be mostly in the upper pin.

I replaced mine with the transom assembly off. If the steering arm is removed it will make the job a little easier. You need a special tool to drive the new bushing in. You could fabricate one but it would be a bear to get the correct depth. You will need a manual. The upper/lower bushing and pin are cheap. The labor is a bear.

Is the play up and down or back and forth?
I had one that was up and down and all it was was the upper nut loosened up. Tightened it and it was fine.

The movement is at the top. The vertical pin (square) that connects to the steering arm is sloppy. I tried tightening it but its not enough. Im going to have to replace the ring and possibly the pin. It looks like there might be a rubber grommet that goes into the ring as well. Im trying to find out if this can be done from the outside or does the whole assembly have to come off? Is there anywhere online that has a parts break down so I can visualize and speak intelligently about what parts Im going to need?

check doller offshore they have a complete parts brake down. I think there is away to get to this part. You need a hole saw and go in through the sides. Check the doller site they have a question and answer section. I put a shim in mine but it was apart
