Fix broken piece of outdrive?
 

I had one of my drives bounce off of a rock and break a piece off that is about the size of half of a dollar coin. Is there a way to repair this? I thought about using JB Weld, will that work? The drive only has fifteen hours on it and not a scratch until this happened. Any ideas will be appreciated.:D :D

If it's on the Skeg you can use the JB weld or some other epoxy "Plastic metal" The better way is to weld but then you have to take it off and depending on where it is you would have to pull the seals and internals because of the heat. I used the JB weld for some 1/2" holes on my cavitation plate. The stuff works very well. Get the Putty type and it will be easier to work with.

Thanks, I was hoping I could use the JB Weld. I'll give it a try a see if it holds.

is that JB Weld stuff sandable? I have a few chunks missing out of my drives that need filled.

Yes, it is sandable.

Just finished the repair and the drive looks new again. The JB weld feels real strong. I'll put it to the water test this weekend and see how it works.:p

Define test....I hope you don't mean bouncing off of a rock again!!!:p

I had the trailing corner (2"x2") missing from one of my skegs. Over the winter I figured WTF... I used marine tex to build it back up. Sanded it, primed it, imroned it and you cannot tell. Been out a bunch of times already this year and it is rock solid.
