which plugs should i run on a procharged 330hp 7.4L
hey guys...
quick question about plugs i'm putting a procharger on my 330hp 7.4L and was wondering which plugs you guys would run. thanks. Ned |
What boost pressure?
If below 3, then try one size colder. If above 3, try two sizes colder. If you can't keep a clean plug at cruise, then go up one hotter. |
boost pressure
5lbs w/ an intercooler

Running stock plugs here...no problems yet...was told hotter is a no no.454 built...9lbs.

JimV told me to run NGK UR-5 plugs. I'll let you know how they look after a couple hours of runtime.

your putting a charger on a stock 330,you do know that thing has small rods and cast pistons.....you should at least have a 365 magnum for one of those!

I don't think he's referring to the small rods, but the 3/8" bolts. Not to mention the fact that the cast pistons will melt if not explode when exposed to a slight bit of detonation for any extended period of time.

Go with cold one!!!
I melted one last season and did all sort of damage to the cylinder and one of the valves. At the time I was only running under around 3-4 pounds of boost (4400-4500rpm). You know what kind of damage detonation can cause as those rpms??? Damage that can cost a **** load of money to fix.. I currently run a V-power R5674-8 It's an extended tip, which I don't think is recommended for a blower motor to begin with, but no more problems so far(about 75hours). I just put new ones in it. Good Luck. |

Really the only bad part for this project in my experance are the
cast pistons I've done several with 3/8 rods and cast crank as its rpm's that kill them not boost (with in reason ) T R W and speed pro had a piston that was very cheap for blowers in std,30,,60,over and I swapped them for the cast piston for next to nothing ,and they even have reverse deflector domes !! They were turbo pistons I think ,no big deal they don't care blower or turbo ,,their cheap !! Then you will have a reasonable 5 to 6 lbs blower motor cheap use a 280 comp flat tappet cam on a 114 ,andput some extra clerance on the wrist pins From here you can go as mild or wild as you want this is a good starter motor The 330 with cast is tough to do with cast pistons I agree :D :chimp: |
you guys are killin me here.
i know the 330 hp motor is not the ideal motor to put procharger on. i've know a few people who have run 5 lbs w/ an innercoler and haven't had any problems. i've got an EGT gauge and plan on checking the plugs on a regular basis. all i want to know is what plugs other people have run on similar applications so i don't run them to hot. thanks. Plugs won't do it ! run a step or two colder ,no big deal
|
The 330 is a great motor if you run it within it's limitations. Use your head when you're out there and you'll be fine.
