intake manifold gasket problems?
I cant keep the rubber front gasket from squeezing out when I torque down the bolts:confused: 30ft.lbs I tried several times and it just keeps pushing out. Has anyone else had this problem?

Throw it away and put a nice thick line of black RTV in its place. Then go a head and torque your manifold. No leaks!

Before you place any gaskets on the block or manifold, pre fit the intake on the block. Make sure you have sufficient space for the front and back gaskets. This will tell you if you have room for gaskets or just sylacone sp.

THRILLSEEKER,
BLACK RTV IS THE ANSWER |
Originally posted by Scott Throw it away and put a nice thick line of black RTV in its place. Then go a head and torque your manifold. No leaks! If you insist on using rubber end seals glue them in place on one side. I used to glue them to the block. DO NOT use silicone it will just act as a lubricant and they WILL slide out. |
The trick to a bead of silicon working is cleaning both surfaces with laquaer thinner before applying. I use High temp RTV or Dow 732. Both work well.

Ultrablack is it, and, yea, clean well and dont touch it till its completely cured.

Clean and Ultra Black or equivalent. I have dynoed engines with this sealing method 30 minuits after assembly with no problem.
Do prefit the manifold and be SURE you have some clearance at the manifold ends for the silicone-if the manifold sits in contace with the block, you will have many problems!!! |
