I got the pics of the new motor install! We have to clean the boat up now, and do the sea trial on Saturday. Here we are right after putting the blocks in the boat. The guy in the pictures is none other than the world famous Robbie Francis, owner, operator, mechanic extraordinaire and master Pulse Drive installation expert. His company name is "Gizmo Mechanical". If you want a Pulse drive installed with no muss or fuss, Robbie is available (you can borrow him now if you still need him, Doc!)

Thanks again Steve, Eddie, Matt, and yes, even you Leander (aka Budda) for all your help on this project. You guys are the best and anyone that wants a great set of motors needs to call you guys. Yup, that's Total Marine and Performance at (985) 649-9888 (how's that for a shame less plug?)

OldSchool 05-16-2003 11:18 AM

Which motors are these? 540's?

imongo 05-16-2003 01:35 PM

Nope, 502, 525HP.

Finally posted pics, They look good.
I see your using cross overs.
I had posted something about this and most said not to bother.
That they make more problems (water preasure).
How are they for you???
Where did you get yours, they look like the ones that Cheif sells"??
Here's mine. Hope to have it in by the end of this weekend.

imongo 05-17-2003 07:02 AM

The crossovers came with the boat originally. I just moved them to the new motors. Haven't had any problems with them. The boat runs very cold with them, but I boat in 80-85 degree water and am carbureted so it is really not a problem. Your rig looks great! What HP?

Mongo

convincor 05-17-2003 07:07 AM

It's stock, 425hp..... for now:D :D
Are you running thermostats?
Water up here at the warmest gets to about 70*.
I want to replace the water pump but i'd really rather switch to the cross over system.
For what i'll spend on a new pump and belts and hoses, i can buy the cross over.

How was the test flight???

Payton 05-18-2003 07:39 PM

We want speeds!!

imongo 05-19-2003 07:30 AM

The test flight was awesome! The motors sound great. A little over-propped, though. At 3800 the boat is doing 50. It will only go to 4600, but is only going 56. Tony at Pulse Drive and I are working out the props and will hopefully have it right or at least close for this weekends Poker Run out of Leverick Bay, BVI. The boat accelerates incredibly! Fires out of the hole on to a plane and if your at 3000 and nail it, it throws your head back like a hot rod! I'll start a new thread after the Poker Run complete with pictures.

ttt what speeds are you getting?

Mango:

How long did it take TPM to build those engines? What was the price and was it the price they originally quoted you?

Good luck you beat me to the water this season!

imongo 09-08-2003 07:09 AM

We did a little tweaking on the props and are now getting 73-74 at 5000 RPM. I'm guessing if I shave a little more, I'll get 78 at 5300.

TMP took about 3 weeks. There was a delay from Crane in getting the cams. Otherwise it would have been 2 weeks. Price was exactly as quoted and they are great guys to work with. The next time I need motors, I will have them do it. I can't say enough good things about TMP or Pulse Drive.

I've now lived with the Pulse Drive for about 9 months. Anyone with out drives needs to toss them. The only thing I've done to the drive is rinse it. That's all the maintainence I've had to do. I don't throttle the boat when I get airborne, i just leave the thottles alone. Tell me you can do that with your Merc's!

Roughly, what do a pair of Pulse Drives cost? No prices listed on their site, just curious.

imongo 09-09-2003 08:10 AM

Hi Johno!

Haven't heard from you in a while. We got lucky with Fabian but Isabela is worry-some. We'll just have to wait and see. I can't believe the trouble your having! I think it is time for you to sell and start over with something that doesn't have a "curse". Hey, I've still got those diverters for CMI elbow tops if you need them.

Monty,

Depending on you HP, around 26K. That includes the drive, props, trannys and complete steering including the helm. Make the jump. You'll never regret it! BTW, WAY cool vette!

imongo, how are the engines? any problems, how fuel guzzling?

imongo 09-10-2003 10:09 AM

Engines are running great! Had a little water in the fuel issue but that is solved. I have nearly 50hrs on them and they have run flawlessly. If I had it to do all over again, I'd do exactly the same thing! Fuel econo is down from the 420's, but that was to be expected. I used to get 1.2 miles to the gallon at 45mph, now 1 mile to the gallon at 50mph (same RPM).
