Gimble hinge pins?

Ok I was helping a buddy pull his drives (bravo 1's) off his 1992 32 hustler, and when I did I had the bell housing practicly fall off on my hand and the hinge pins on the gimble were all busted up, and the trim switches were hanging off.
Can you replace them, the hinge bushings, or just purchase new gimble's?

Do a search on hing pin there is a lot of info on this subject. Ron Bender at JR Marine is repairing mine now. He has the right solution for your problem. Give him a call.

the trim indicators were prolly hanging because the hinge bolt backed out. when you buy a new hinge bolt, it comes with a new bushing. check your bell housing threads. if stripped, you can buy a helicoil kit, drill out, insert helicoil and use new factory bolts again. i did it, and let two others on the board use my helicoil kit for their repairs too. worked all last season

if more damage than what i mention, then look into new housings I guess.

one sign of the bolts rotating (beginning to back out) is the trim indicators don't read properly. (if you don't use mechanical indicators)

This is not a fun job!
Ron helped me out with an access plate that got you to the upper swivel shaft (instead of mercs two 1" hole deal) which helped alot.
The hinge pins ride on a fiberglass bushing that are apoxied in so they are not fun to remove. If it was that loose I would think there is more damage. If your not talking to Ron already make the phone call, he has rebiult gimbal rings which can save you money.
If you go to BAM's website there are the scamatics for the transom assem., bell housing, and gimbal ring. Give us an idea what parts you are looking at and Ill tell you more of what you have to do. I replaced just about everything on mine two weeks ago. Some because it was worn but most because I dont want to have to deal with that part of the boat for a few hundred hours more.
