Carb Size for 454 Mag
Have decided to change out my Weber with a Holley. What size Holley should I go to on a 92 454 Mag?? 750, 800 ???
Thanks for you help. |
oh, you will get opinions from 750 to 850. I run old 780's. If I was going to buy one it would be an 800.

The 750 will have the best throttle response and is more than enough cfms. The Webers are 750cfm also. I had an 800-hp500 carb on my hopped up 454 mag that worked fine too though. No reason to go more than the 800cfm.

I have a marine Holley 750 w/vac secondaries if your interested?

If it's a stock 454 Mag, I would run a Holley 750. If you plan to do a lot of mods in the future (cam, heads etc...) maybe an 800. I have a 454 Mag (.030 over - 460) they is really warmed over (cam, heads ported/polished) and am running an 850 (got a good deal on it), but feel it is too much carb for my application. Run's good at idle, cruise, and opened up, but has a slight stumble when getting on plain I haven't worked out as of yet. Thinking of trying an 800 this summer.

Mr Demeanor, How old and condition on the 750? Also what kind of $$$

800cfm and 750 cfm Holley Marine
I believe that you inquired about the 750 cfm Holley with low hours. I still have it. I also have a 800cfm Holley for 300 plus shipping. Both carbs are marine version. Let me know.

Sheikman, e-mail me at [email protected]
give me your phone number and I'll give you a call. Thanks Brian |
I'll take $250 and I can set it up any way you want as far as jets and power valves. It has the secondary spring kit with the quick change housing and all the springs. Its off a 92 OMC motor so its painted OMC gray. It is completely rebuilt with factory parts. I ran it a few hours then got a smokin deal on a 750 w/mechanical secondaries. I didnt see any gain with the mechanical carb. There is nothing wrong with the carb, its like new. I can send you a pic if your interested.

I had Webers on my 454 Mags and they were bulletproof, 13 seasons like day 1, never any issues and great fuel mileage.
I have Holley 800's on my new 502's, all they do is load up and stumble. Need to find someone who really knows how to tune 'em. Why are you changing the carb? Just curious. |
