Engine Rebuild?
I have a 1990 Baja 250 ES. 7.4/bravo 1
It started making a knocking noise and has metal in the oil. I don't want to spend anymore than I have to. I don't think I will keep this boat much longer. It cost me too much already, but I really don't see anyone wanting to buy it will an engine knock. What is the best fix for this thing? I would like to get my engine rebuilt or put in a long block. I live in Fort Lauderdale. Where should I get this done? Thanks Gene Bopp |
I feel that the best thing you can do in this case is find yourself a good used motor. There are alot of low hour " Take Outs" floating around. It may be a good time to upgrade to EFI while you are at it. It will only add to the resale value.

Marc from BAM Marine is down there in Florida somewhere and might be able to help you or swing you in the right direction.

Make me an offer on my 2001 7.4MPI with 98 hours. It is being taken out of the boat this week. All accessories are included. Send me a PM if you want to talk.

Bopp,
pm me and I can arrange for a very trustworthy hi-performance wrench to swap out your motor and install the new long block. No larg overhead to pay for and he is a first rate guy. Bosco:) |
New motor
Try & buy local. Rebuilding is expensive, parts labor & machine work add up real fast. There are ton of takes outs laying around, just find a reputable marine mechanic to help. I bought an HP 500 from a fellow OSO member, he had it rebuilt & i bought it from him...it lasted 1 hour before it spun a rod bearing. I am in FL & he is in CA, shipping will bump up the $$$ Take your time & you'll find a deal.
Hope you have better luck than I did. John |
