Throttle Knob - Trim ?
Hi All,
I have a dual stick Keikafer Throttle that is a 1996 unit. I want to put a trim on throttle thumb switch on the stick. I bough a Gaffrig unit that is supposed to fit the Zero-effort controls. The radius is too small to fit on the round knob. I called Gaffrig and them said they only make one size and he couldn't understand why it did not fit. First question is are there differnet handle sizes for Zero efforts. The next question is return the Gaffrig clamp on and see if I can get the "red" thrunb switch. It looks like I just need to drill some holes and bolt it onto the existing handle knob. Has anybody done this and where can I get the part? Thanx! |
I bought all the Merc switch parts from BAM for my '94 Kiek-levers. I prefer stock over aftermarket clamp ons. Had right at $100 for parts. You just remove the red plastic emblem(double sided tape), unscrew the 2 halves and replace with switch assembly. You will have to drill a hole in the underside of the knob for the wires to come out and run along the lever. I bent a SS tube to follow the lever contour and ran the wires inside of it for a more factory original look. The tube located inside of the drilled hole, followed the lever down below the rubber slot seal and ended inside of the shifter under the dash. I had to cut some of the forward lever stop down to allow for the SS tube.

back side.
If you are just using it for a single drive, you will considerably less $$ as you won't need the diode kit. I used mine for the trim tabs, as Fountain put the drive trim in the steering wheel. |
Thanx for the info... you wouldn't happen the part no's handy?
|
Shooter, I posted all this info for you last year when you asked about it. Old age setting in? ;) :)
This was my reply then, but now it looks like the pt #'s aren't listed. The BAM site will not go into any detail other than motors and drives any longer. Don't know what's up with that! Anyways........ Throttle trim revisted Good Luck |
US1, glad I checked this post. I will figure out what is wrong with the site. Didn't know there was a problem.
Thanks! BTW, that is a nice job. It is way expensive to buy the complete levers. |
See http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selec..._nbr=41573+94H for the HP accessories, had a little problem with the database

Marc,
Thanks for compliment. Site is working now. Glad it was easily fixed. Haven't been able to get any of the categories other than the drives and motors to come up for a few weeks now. I refer to your site all the time for part numbers. Thanks again. Jerry |
Shooter,
here are the parts that you will need; 2,3,4,5,& 6 Looks like around $45. I assume you are just looking at controlling a single drive? If so, that's all the parts needed, accept for wire that you supply. Trim parts |
yeah, I rememeber, Thanx again.
I changed boats at the time and never followed through. Take care |
