What prop do you recommend?
I was running a 29P Mirage Plus last year. Since the new motor is in I can't get the Mirage to bite without slipping or blowing out often.
Tried a 30P Lab Finished Bravo, great mid range acceleration and top end, but took forever and too much tab to get on plane, ran 4800 RPM WOT with the 30P. Running a 28P Hydromotive right now, great out of the hole, good acceleration and decent top end, 5000 RPM WOT. The downside to this prop is that it really causes the boat to porpoise. The boat is my 24' Pantera, 4,500#, 645HP, 1:50 Bravo From the above info, what do you recommend? |
What was last yrs hp and speed and rpm's with the 29plus. Also what is the rpm @645hp.

I think I would try to get a 28 lab to try. It sounds like the 30 is to much wheel and the 28 Hydro isn't carrying the boat quite right. Probably from the calculations I ran both of these are probably getting you into the high 70's. If you can swing the 28 lab 5200 RPM it may put you around 80. What rpm did the motor make its best HP? That may help get you into a pitch and the correct prop will be determined by testing.

I have a 24 Superboat which has a very similar hull as the 24 Pantera. I had the same problems you describe with the Mirage plus. I have a 454 Mag (385 HP) and I run a 26 Bravo @ 5000 rpms. With as much HP as you have I would think a 28 bravo would be too small. Are you sure your boat weighs 4500? Is that including gear, gas, and people? I would think with 645 HP you should be around 90 MPH.

I'm like wet vette I'd go with the 28 bravo and let the motor turn its loaded to death now I think

Boat should be around 4600# with me and 1/2 tank of fuel.
I was running Mid 80's with the 28P Hydromotive @ 5000 RPM. With the 29P Mirage last year . . . . 91+ MPH. I don't remember the RPM though!! |

Thanks, Kirk |
