Best way to mount oil cooler
I have a Baja Hammer and am in the process of pulling the 7.4 mpi. I am putting in a 468 and have just bought a cooler from another guy on the board. It is 3" in diameter and 19 1/2" long. There are no mounting brackets. How have some of you mounted these? The caps on each end have a center bolt. can I make an L bracket and use these bolts to mount brackets and then mount on a stringer? Any advice would be appreciated.

Used stainless all thread in a hole in the back of each head. Then a clamp style pipe (plumping) hanger threaded onto the stud I made. These are available in a wide variety of sizes and have a threaded hole in them that works great. Then clamped coolers in place and plumbed the oil and water to them.
A buddy of mine did the same thing except mounted the cooler on the stringer using the same style clamps. My coolers sit side to side , behind and under the distributor. If you need a picture , I'll take one when it stops raining:rolleyes: Got the clamps at Home Depot or Lowe's |
Mounts
Ray,
If you have what I think you have, the type that mounts over the bell housing?? I used 2.5" rigid metal 1 hole conduit strap, looks like a question mark?. I lined the inside part where the filter sits with rubber &used a 4" metal hose clamp to clamp it onto the conduit strap. Mounts horizontal over the bell housing using the the studs , install grounds first & tighten the nuts then install cooler & install additional nut. PM me if you want a photo of the setup. John |
Or go to Edde Marine and buy a set...
