MSD 6AL Ignition help

I am installing two MSD 6als with the blaster 2 coils on my slightly modified 468cid engines. I have the t-bolt IV ignition now. Couple questions:

1. Do I just remove the existing coil wires (+ and -) and install this setup using the "white" wire for the trigger (-)?

2. Does the t-bolt ignition module stay in tact with basically no intervention?

3. Will my stock prestolite distributor work ok with this?

4. How can I tell if I have solid core or spiral core plug wires now? Instructions say to only run spiral core. I have the stock mercruiser wires from bam. They are red, say mercruiser on them and are fairly new.

5. What type of performance changes would one expect from switching to capacitive discharge ignition?

Any other input is welcome.

Thanks,

Can't help with your questions but have been told to disconnect the power to the box when not in use for long peroids of time. There's a transformer in the box. Plus if you hid the wire boat theives will have a hard time starting it.

1. I can't recall for sure. I remember the trigger going to the coil + though...

2. Yes

3. Yes

4. If your vhf works correctly now, then you don't have solid core wires.

5. Not much more power. You'd only gain power if there was something wrong with your current ignition. If you've experience a problem with plug fouling at idle, the msd system will clean that up.

must use thunder bolt box and set it up as a point dist.

some people get a few 100 rpm's and others get milage and driveabality

Thanks fellas. Thats the info I was looking for. Hoping for good things with this setup because I am running aluminum heads on a basically low compression setup. Dennis M says that the aluminum conducts too much heat away from the combustion chamber with this mismatch and that the CD ingition will help.

I have also noted that I achieve maximum speed in the first 15 seconds or so of a WOT blast and then I loose about 2 mph. Am running fat on the a/f mix, so am feeling confident the coils and burn temps are the culprit.
