Small Block Chevy Stroke Question

Will a 4" Stroke Crank,With a 5.850" or 6" long Rod Work in a standard 9.025 Deck 400 Block? Does the cam have to have a Reduced Diameter Base Circle to clear the rods?

Thanks
Rob

Hey Rob,

Yes it will. A 434 is a .030 400 with a 4" stroke. I use to drag race one and man what alot of BALLS!! They are awsome. And you have to run like a .900 base circle. I think I ran like an .850. Go with the 6" rod and if you can get one, get one of the 1970 or 71 high nickel two bolt blocks and have it machined for splayed main caps. You will also have to grind the bottom for rod clearance and you'll probably have to run a stroker pan. The 4-bolt blocks have a tendency to have rather weak webbing and will crack over time. After market blocks are best though. If you have questions, feel free to email.
