pro-charger carb box question
Stupid question, but should there be some kind of wastegate to bleed air pressure off. Never have noticed how much air pressure I have at idle.
|
No wastegate wanted or needed. Based on the blower & pulleys you are using you may have a positve pressure in box @ idle. Good news is as soon as you open throttle you will have some boost.
|
I've never seen pressure at idle. always 0. I've had 3 different systems with all sorts of pulleys on them. The 3rd isn't hooked up yet. I'll let you know but I don't expect any.

I have 2 pressure gauges, one in box (top of carb) & one in manifold (below carb) The bottom one is what the motor is seeing, & top is what procharger is putting out. Such as at 2600 rpm cruise motor sees 5-6" vacuum, box has 3-4 psi.
Dave- how is the project coming along. |
TJ,
Slow but sure. I just got the motor mounts drilled and installed. Got the long block in place, installed half the guages, getting ready to put the extention box and gimble on permanently, drilled my 5" exhaust holes, removed the water tank under the back seat to get to my fuel pick-up, ordered my oil cooler, ordered my drive from MMW......on and on. I was pretty productive over the last 3 days. most of what's left is bolting stuff together and running lines, wires and hose. I'm hoping for the end of next month for my first splash. We will see I guess. My baby girl took alot of my time in the begining but now she's old enough for sitters and I'm able to get in the garage and get stuff done. The wife would work I would baby sit and vice versa. working 12hrs a day doesnt' help either. Thanks for checkin in. I plan on posting pics when I get more done. Before and after kinda stuff. DAVE |
Dave, Your PM is full. What kind of box are you using-- Stellings or IMCO?
|
I have butterfly valves on the back of each box but I keep them closed. Why they are there I have no idea.
|
Cobra,
I dont understand why my pm is full. I pull it up and there are no messages in there. I'll have to contact OSO to get it fixed I guess. I'm using WPM box, and steering. DAVE |
wpm? What do they use for the shaft? A long one like IMCO or a bearing carrier and driveshaft like stellings?
|
They use a shaft with a U joint on either end. One U joint bolts to the flywheel with the use of a "spacer" and on the other end, the second U joint bolts to a bearing where the bravo shaft inserts.
The bearing is suspended using 1/2" aircraft aluminum and stainless bolts, supported with webing inside the box. Much better system than Imco in my opinion. DAVE |
